We’ve spent a lifetime watching various governments repress their people or invade other countries. It seems to be a human compulsion. We are told that we are living in a time of unprecedented peace since WW2. In fact, even in the 21st century there have been numerous armed conflicts, with many ongoing to this day. Access to 24 hour news cycles, internet sources and citizen journalism raises awareness but also heightens the sense of threat and anxiety. Janette’s lyrics could be expressing people’s feelings in any war zone. These fears and hopes are common to us all. Addressing these topics can be called polemic. Maybe so, but important nonetheless. I have no idea where this will end
Houses crashing to the ground and all you see is red
Life will go on in some shape or form
but not for many in the belly of the storm.

You can say it’s always been this way
He who has the biggest army gets the final say
He will hold sway – and all we do is pray
and watch the lives of others being swept away.

Gathering above us angry drones
Used to be the snipers kept the people in their homes
Waiting for the Bomb, Death as stelliform
and the man behind it is increasingly alone.

Is our genus selfish to the core?
We leave a trail of devastation, terror, rape and gore
The Earth and all her inhabitants will fall
If we don’t wake up, there will be nothing left at all.
