Almost 35 years to the day after our last recording, Alternative Communication regrouped to compose and record new music in September 2019.

Our approach to the process was unchanged from the 80s. One of us had an idea (a riff, tune, lyric), brought it to the group and we played around with it. In this case, David brought a simple riff in D and in no time, we had three interweaving parts in a non-standard rhythm and plans for it to evolve. Over a few sessions, the piece progressed. Distinct movements - related to the original themes - were created. A suitably raucous drum line was programmed. A coherent structure emerged and was finalised within only a few weeks.

This piece is rightly - for us - the climax of the album. It captures that first feeling of positive energy we experienced playing together after such a long break.

Why "Resolving the Three Body Problem"? There are challenges but also opportunities with three musicians interacting. It can be hard to predict where it will go, but the result can be all the better for it. Resolution is synergy.
