Psychotomy (definition) - a mental condition where a person's personality seems to have been split into two opposite and distinct behavioural patterns emerging randomly.

Okay, so there are two psychiatrists in the band.......

This piece started life as an idea from David using MIDI synthesizers and a driving 7+8/4 synth bassline. Now mid lock-down but still trying to progress our album, a .wav file arrived in Brian & Janette's in-box and was transferred to our recording system. Various drums were added, then electric bass and electric guitar lines but it was Janette's addition of a slower organ section that ultimately gave the piece its sense of contrast - the two personalities of the title. Various potential overdubs were emailed back and forth - including some lead guitar lines which were in keeping with the disturbing title of the piece. Once the final structure was agreed that left a mammoth production job for David to complete.

The piece was one of the last completed - and stands as a sharp contrast to the warm sounds of the opening track. It also echoes many of the flavours of 1984 Alternative Communication at full tilt.
