about

The option of leading a quiet and private life is vanishing. It is easy to be aware of the big events that disrupt ordinary lives. Dictators controlling their citizens, aggressive countries invading their neighbours, civil wars between power hungry tribes splitting the population, religious groups intent on destroying other religious groups, and so on. But in the more peaceful parts of our planet, privacy is being willingly relinquished by the citizens. The Banks know exactly how we spend our money by digital transactions, domestic computers send our personal information to big tech companies, we’re photographed repeatedly on CCTV when outdoors and we even pay to carry a sophisticated tracking device that is making itself increasingly indispensable in modern life. (Try buying a smartphone that doesn’t have all the links to these big tech firms pre-installed or able to be deleted.)
This piece reflects the feeling of living a life under the pressure of being constantly monitored. There is a brief period of escape but the welcome sense of a relaxed freedom soon takes on a tension of its own before the default status of modern life kicks back in again. [DR]

Alternative Communication Perth, UK

David A. Reid (solo artist) and Brian and Janette Kidd (Not for Pussies) continued to
compose and record until, in 2019, they reconvened.
